Khalid bin Sultan Al Faisal spoke about Saudi Arabia`s ambitions in auto and motorsports.

Prince Khalid is the president of the country`s automobile and motorcycle federation. According to him, Saudi Arabia intends to become a center of attraction for Formula 1 teams and automakers - in particular, for McLaren or Aston Martin, shares in which belong to the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.

Saudi Arabia is a minority shareholder of the McLaren Group, the parent company of the McLaren team, and is also a second shareholder of the automaker Aston Martin, the sponsor of the F1 team. At the same time, the Aston Martin team is entirely owned by a consortium led by Lawrence Stroll.

We want to create a hub. We have big companies that can contribute to the development of motorsport. We hope and are working [on relocating the F1 team to Saudi Arabia]. Hopefully we can attract one of the big automakers.

Given the investments - the sovereign wealth fund bought stakes in McLaren and Aston Martin - we are moving in this direction. "I hope we can open and move our headquarters to Saudi Arabia or hire people who will help produce cars and technologies, create our brands and our intellectual property, " the prince shared his thoughts.

Saudi Arabia is set to host a variety of motorsport events, including the World Rally Championship in 2024.

I hope we will close the deal soon, " said the head of the Federation.

The country already hosts the F1 Grand Prix, Formula E races, the Dakar rally-raid, and a MotoGP stage is planned in the future.

Prince Khalid announced how Saudi Arabia intends to develop in the future and promote its own pilots in F1 and MotoGP:

We have a 20-year program that we expect to launch in late 2023 or early 2024. Our goal is not just to hold international competitions, we want to participate more actively. We want to have engineers, mechanics, we want to build cars, to act creatively.

We really want to have a champion, a driver who can compete in Formula 1, a driver in MotoGP. We are actively investing in infrastructure, in the construction of racing tracks in Saudi Arabia. We want to create academies to get more involvement: Saudi teams with Saudi or other riders. There is a long way ahead, but hopefully by 2030, 2035, 2040 we will achieve our goals.
